Note here that the pattern on the sail starts at top and drifts to the lower left but then continues down the right hand side not indicating a sail cut diagonally in half loop forms just behind mast and can be acchieved by continually twisting sail. The crew in a number of images appear to be comunicating with the helmsman by hand signals .
