Press Event for 25th July 7.30pm
Ships & Sails of The Bayeux Tapestry
7.30pm Saturday 25th July
A talk by David Jones
Back in 2005, David Jones, a local furniture maker, built a Viking style craft, Lille Draken which was craned over his house! Since then he has carried out research into the design and sailing of Viking and Norman boats. Using the images of the Bayeux tapestry as reference material, he has made and experimented with replicas of rudders, sails and shields and concludes that Norman sails were in fact triangular and not square. This presentation with slides and images will bring to life the days of the Norman invasion.
